Toronto’s urban elite filled the Isadore and Rosalie Sharp City Room at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts for Operanation 6 to celebrate Bizet’s most beloved opera, Carmen. The story of Carmen follows the life of a tempting seductress whose blind love with an inexperienced soldier leads to her ultimate murder by the jealous ex-lover. Carmen has become one of the most performed operas in the world.
Operanation was infused with Latin music and tango dancing and featured a stunning opera performance by Mezzo-soprano Lauren Segal, who starred as Carmen’s companion Mercedes in the show.
Servers circled the main room and upstairs with trays of delicious Spanish tapas and exotic cocktails while the bartenders were kept busy at the open bar. Attendees became celebrities at the Hello Magazine photobooth, took Spanish dance lessons, competed in a silent auction and left with luxury gift bags.
And to top it off, Canada advanced to the semi-finals with a 3-2 win over Slovakia (it was shown live upstairs, of course).
Can’t wait for the next one.
