The first Pay it Backward Day by Daily Challenge in April was immensely successful, so they decided to do it again.
The concept was the same: people paid it backward on September 30th at more than 170 Second Cup locations across Ontario by purchasing a coffee for the person behind them in line. But this time, the charity component was elevated a bit – each act of “coffee kindness” meant that $5 was donated to The SickKids Foundation. This was huge and the turn out was amazing. Everyone was smiling and buying each other coffees. Each person who did so received a number and had their photo taken. This made everyone feel as though they were contributing and really brought up the energy. It made the entire environment light up. The SickKids Foundation and Second Cup exceeded their goal. The turnout was incredible. We hung around the main location on Queen and John where live DJ’s, a red carpet, decorations and a whole lot of spirit surrounded Second Cup. A young boy wearing the SickKids t-shirt and using a cowbell to draw attention to the coffee shop tugged on everyone’s heartstrings. The amount of energy present at all times constantly attracted more people to the event. We spoke to some of the people at the event, representatives of SickKids and even contributed to the making of the coffee. It was a fantastic experience and certainly note worthy. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the cause.
