As Canadians, we can be extremely proud of our relief efforts in Haiti, both individually and as a nation. Our country was a leader in contributing money, aid and humanitarian workers and our city organized numerous initiatives dedicated to raising money for Haiti. But, as it often happens, we tend to forget about a disaster as time passes. It’s important to remember that rebuilding Haiti will take years and the constant flow of supplies and money to the third world Caribbean island. Thank you to everyone who joined our “Toronto, Help Haiti!” Facebook group, send it their e-mails and attended the official fundraiser on Feb. 6 at Kool Haus.
Here’s how and where to keep donating:
Canadian Red Cross – The Canadian Red Cross is currently leading aid and relief efforts in Haiti. Text donations to the Red Cross have exceeded $4 million.
UNICEF – For every dollar donated by individual Canadians to UNICEF Canada, the Canadian International Development Agency will contribute a dollar to relief efforts in Haiti.
World Vision – If you give a donation to the Haiti Earthquake victims through World Vision, by February 12th, it will double in impact due to a generous contribution from the Canadian Government.
Salvation Army – Donors can text the word “HAITI” to 45678 from most Canadian carriers to contribute $5 to the Salvation Army.
